Illustration and Graphic DesignTumblr (3.0; @jroseillustration)http://jroseillustration.tumblr.com/<img src="http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m9iqm6F4j61rne2i1o1_r1_500.jpg"/><br/><br/><p>Another fun illustration to work on.  Everyone does a college guide.  I thought the band thing might be a unique, yet universal approach, if that’s possible.  The main goal was to draw something with motion, like the band is running by.  The dog mascot was actually a late addition.  He provided another place to integrate text, accentuates the sense of motion, and grounds the whole composition.  As for color, I wanted to hint at retro by staying with a muted three color scheme.  I love those old two color Saturday Evening Post covers by Norman Rockwell. There are a ton of fun characters to illustrate on this team, but Prince Fielder is the big story of the season so far. Still, it was hard not to put Verlander on the cover.
